It’s. so. hot. 😭😂😓🤯😵
Why we deserve cake.
For tomorrow’s rehearsal, just two songs, 38 pages total, copies for the full cast & stage management, with the staging for each character written in, measure-by-measure. For the second song, I was able to combine some characters together on one staff, so that’s why it has fewer of them. There are more songs than this in the scene we’re staging, but they only each involved one or two people onstage, so we’ll do that the old-fashioned way. This was a lot of work, but it should be more readable for everyone than my original score with the staging scribbled throughout, and hopefully will streamline what’s going to be a complicated process no matter what.
Then, afterwards, we’re having cake.
Dido and Aeneas: Week 3!
This week’s video diary. It was a very good week, my friends. Great music, great collaborators, (mostly) livable temperatures. I can’t wait for you to see this opera.
Special thanks to incredible musicians/coaches Shayne Lebron-Acevedo & Wallie Evyon Lewis for making it possible for us to include teens in our orchestra this year, and to James David Jacobs for coming up with the idea in the first place. 💜
In which I am an overachiever
Am seriously making a version of this song’s score with everyone’s staging marked out measure-by-measure so I can print copies for Monday’s staging rehearsal. It’s just that complicated. 😂
When the writing really isn’t clear
Maddeningly contradictory text in Dido and Aeneas: In a single scene with one location, the environment is originally described as an uninhabited valley in the woods, then a mountain with a waterfall, and finally as an open field, providing no shelter from an oncoming storm. WHICH IS IT, PURCELL? WHICH IS IT?
Dido & Aeneas: Week 2!
As our race to raise funds for the opera continues, please enjoy this glimpse behind the scenes of ATS Opera Workshop: Dido and Aeneas, rehearsal week two! Featuring Sarah & Samantha’s birthday, waaaaay too much heat and humidity, and the birth of Bryann! Check out the video to find out what that means. 😉
Also, Greyson makes declarations about Idina Menzel and Zac Efron that I just can’t get behind, but y’know…
